About Me

Born in Detroit in 1981, Larry Smith Jr. is the sole author of the Baseball Shortstop.   Growing up a Detroit Tigers fan in the immediate post-championship era of the late 80s, he has watched great players come and go, Cecil Fielder’s race to 50 home runs when such a thing was a big deal, and his team’s ascent from the dark depths of baseball Hades to an American League Championship in 2006.   While he loves all sports, his saves his greatest enthusiasm for baseball and regularly attends twenty or more games per season.   His lifelong quest of visiting every active Major League Stadium, as of January 2010, stands at 20.  He has also visited four now-defunct ballparks in Detroit, Cleveland, St. Louis, and the Bronx.
